Disability Tax Credit Review

CRA's Disability Advisory Committee made 18 new recommendations on Disability Tax Credit administration and data transparency.

Canada Revenue Agency said the Disability Advisory Committee submitted its fifth annual report with 18 new recommendations.

The committee advises the Minister of National Revenue and CRA on how the agency administers and interprets tax measures for Canadians with disabilities.

The recommendations focus on Disability Tax Credit administration, service delivery, and better use of data.

One recommendation was to improve DTC statistics and develop a publicly accessible data dashboard.

The committee also recommended work with Statistics Canada using 2021 Census data, T1 tax data, and the Index of Remoteness to better understand the needs of Indigenous communities.

CRA said the report also provided a progress update on recommendations from previous annual reports.

The Disability Tax Credit is important beyond the credit itself because eligibility can affect access to related disability supports and savings programs.

The report does not change eligibility rules immediately. Its significance is administrative: better data, clearer interpretation, and improved service can affect whether eligible people understand, apply for, and receive disability-related tax support.
