Department of Finance Canada extended the Ukraine Goods Remission Order for one year, continuing tariff-free importation of Ukrainian goods into Canada.
The remission order temporarily remits customs duties on imports from Ukraine. It was first issued on June 9, 2022 and has been extended each year since.
The latest extension runs until June 9, 2026. Finance Canada estimated it would remit about $1.2 million in duties from June 10, 2025 to June 9, 2026.
The department said Canada had imported more than $35 million in goods from Ukraine since the order began, with $8.5 million in customs duties remitted.
The measure is small compared with Canada's broader Ukraine support, but it is concrete trade-tax relief. Since January 2022, Canada has committed more than $8 billion in support to Ukraine across financial, humanitarian, development, military, peace, stabilization, and immigration measures.
The European Union and the United Kingdom also extended unilateral suspensions of tariffs on goods from Ukraine.
For Canadian importers, the order affects duty costs on Ukrainian goods. For public policy, it is a customs measure used to support a foreign partner's export capacity during war.
