Department of Finance Canada announced an additional $520 million for rebuilding work in Jasper National Park and the town of Jasper after the 2024 wildfire.
The wildfire burned about 32,700 hectares and destroyed 30% of structures in the town. Finance Canada said a significant portion of the park's infrastructure was also damaged or destroyed.
Over the past two years, the federal government has delivered more than $385 million for Jasper wildfire response and recovery. That support has helped provide interim housing for more than 415 families, remove debris from all affected lots, and advance rebuilding work, with construction underway at 118 properties.
The new funding is intended to accelerate rebuilding of Jasper National Park and support critical repairs. Finance Canada said it will also continue interim housing for displaced residents.
Finance Canada said the wildfire damaged or destroyed an estimated 20% of total assets in the park, including front country campgrounds, staff housing, grounds, utility buildings, highways, and roadways.
The additional funding will support rebuilding of those assets, interim housing through March 2028, townsite and perimeter fire-risk reduction, and faster reconstruction work.
The funding shows how federal disaster-recovery spending is being directed after a major natural disaster: first toward temporary housing and essential repairs, and then toward rebuilding public assets, reducing future fire risk, and supporting Jasper's local recovery.
