Budget 2024 Health Measures

Next year, all uninsured Canadians between the ages of 18 and 64, with a family income up to $90,000, will be eligible.

Department of Finance Canada said Budget 2024 included health-care measures involving student-loan forgiveness, mental-health funding, and drug and medical-device supply capacity.

The health-care funding was being delivered through tailored bilateral agreements with provinces and territories.

Budget 2024 also expanded student-loan forgiveness to more rural and remote health professionals, including dentists, dental hygienists, pharmacists, psychologists, physiotherapists, midwives, and personal support workers.

For public finance, the issue is how federal transfers and targeted workforce measures affect provincial health-care capacity and the cost of delivering services.

Taxpayers and businesses will need the final legal text, effective dates, and CRA or departmental guidance before applying the measure.
