Budget 2024 Dental Care Measures

In Budget 2024, the federal government launched the Canada Disability Benefit, to help improve the financial well-being of over 600,000 low-income persons with disabilities by delivering up to $2,400 in direct support every year.

Department of Finance Canada said Budget 2024 included measures to expand access to dental care and support health-care workers in rural and remote communities.

The dental-care measures were presented alongside the federal government's broader tax-fairness plan, including capital-gains tax changes affecting a small share of taxpayers.

Budget 2024 expanded student-loan forgiveness to more rural and remote health professionals, including dentists, dental hygienists, pharmacists, midwives, teachers, social workers, personal support workers, physiotherapists, and psychologists.

The Canada Child Benefit was also cited as part of the government's affordability measures for families with children.

For households, the after-tax effect depends on eligibility, filing obligations, payment timing, and the final design of the rule.
