2026 Filing Season Changes

CRA listed the 2026 filing dates, digital notice changes, and a new top-up tax credit tied to the first federal tax bracket threshold.

The Canada Revenue Agency published its 2026 filing-season overview for 2025 income tax and benefit returns.

The main filing date for most individuals is April 30, 2026. Self-employed individuals have until June 15, 2026 to file, although any balance owing is still due by April 30.

CRA said online filing opened February 23, 2026. It also reminded taxpayers to wait for tax slips before filing, because most slips are issued by employers or financial institutions by the end of February and may appear in CRA accounts after processing.

The agency highlighted a new Top-Up Tax Credit. CRA described it as a non-refundable credit introduced to effectively maintain a 15 per cent rate for certain non-refundable tax credits claimed on amounts over the first income tax bracket threshold of $57,375 for 2025.

CRA also said that, starting in February 2026, notices of assessment and reassessment would be available digitally in My Account after a return is received and processed.

The update combines filing deadlines with system changes. For taxpayers, the practical task is to file on time, check slips before filing, and understand whether new credit or digital-notice rules affect the return.
