Canada Revenue Agency announced changes to the 2025 income tax package for paper filers.
The CRA said about 93 per cent of income tax and benefit returns were filed online in 2025.
For the 2025 package, CRA will no longer proactively mail the income tax package to individuals. Paper filers will not automatically receive a package in the mail.
CRA also removed several federal schedules with low usage rates from the paper package, along with corresponding provincial and territorial schedules where applicable.
Removed federal schedules include Schedule 2 for amounts transferred from a spouse or common-law partner, Schedule 3 for capital gains or losses, Schedule 6 for the Canada Workers Benefit, Schedule 7 for RRSP, PRPP, SPP, Home Buyers' Plan and Lifelong Learning Plan activity, Schedule 9 for donations and gifts, Schedule 12 for the Multigenerational Home Renovation Tax Credit, and Schedule 15 for FHSA activity.
The forms are not eliminated from the tax system. CRA said taxpayers who need a removed schedule can still obtain forms, schedules, and publications online or by phone.
Beginning January 20, 2026, taxpayers can order, view, download, or print the 2025 package online, or call CRA's automated phone line to request it.
The agency said mailed forms can take up to 10 business days to arrive. Taxpayers who request a package before January 20, 2026 may receive the 2024 package instead.
Paper filers may need to take extra steps to obtain the right package and any missing schedules before preparing a 2025 return.
